mama duck and ducklings
I love pull toys, and I love to see toddlers pulling one even more. They are traditionally offered in stores in wooden and plush versions, but I’ve never seen a knitted version.
These ducks are constructed in a fantastic way, starting with a simple base knitted back and forth. To make the body, stitches are picked up around the base edge and knitted up from there. The body, head, and tail are all knitted in one piece, and it is so fun to see the ducks take shape as you work.
I provided instructions for duck feet for those who don’t want to make the wheels, but the wheels are not at all difficult to construct. I have no woodworking skills whatsoever, but I made, cut, and assembled the wheels on the kitchen counter. The result? Sitting still or rolling along, these ducks are as cute as can be.
